Eighteen of the 26 members of the Ondo State House of Assembly on Tuesday night impeached the first female Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele and her Deputy, Fatai Olotu. The impeachment took place at one of the lawmakers quarters in Akure, the Ondo state capital at about 10:30pm , March 8th.
The lawmakers also elected Iroju Ogundeji and Ayo Arowele, as speaker and deputy speaker respectively.
Although there is no official word on the reasons behind the impeachment, But the rumours lingering was that the house members were angry with the leadership for failing to protect their interest and that the lawmakers complained of being owed three months salary, with some of them having no official quarters.
However, we await to know the official reason behind such action .
